The latest update on the whole rumor about moving Chang from SFKK to SFGAm confirms that the project is still alive and well, though there are a few hurdles to be mounted before it’s confirmed. Location is a factor at SFGAm of course, though previously I had thought that Iron Wolf may be taken out, the latest rumors seem to indicate that for at least the 2011 season, the park may actually keep and run BOTH stand-up coasters. The other big obsticle to this idea may actually come from Kentucky, as apparently I’ve heard that Six Flags has some kind of agreement with the city of Louisville that they do have to do a certain dollar amount of improvements to the park every year. Removing a large price-tag ride like Chang would put them into the negative very quickly, so the city would have to given an ok to the plan to remove Chang as well, in exchange for the promise of that huge waterpark expansion that is supposed to replace it.
While we may not see Chang show up in the Chicago area until 2011, one rumor is going around claiming that the coaster may be removed this winter. Sounds like they could be sending it off for a little rehab work if true. The problem with that rumor however is that it requires money to tear down the coaster, and Six Flags is still going through the bankruptcy process and really can’t approve any big project until they come out the other side, so I have doubts this will happen until next year.
A local source claims that Superman: ROS at SFA may be getting repainted this fall. Of course this has some wondering if Bizarro may be on the way to SFA in 2010, but somehow I don’t think this is the case.
While I haven’t been able to confirm anything yet, many do believe that this coming weekend will be your last chance to ride Chang before they remove it. So if you want to take one final spin and have nothing else going on, you’ve been warned.
The local news has now confirmed that work has begun to remove Chang. However the Chang rumor mill is working overtime lately, ever since we broke the story that the ride was likely to be Chicago bound. The latest wild rumors being spread now claim that Chang could touch down at any number of other Six Flags parks without a Stand-Up coaster (SFA? SFGAdv?) while another rumor talks about only sending the trains to Chicago and sending the coaster to SFMM. However my own trusted sources say nay-nay to all of these, and to hold fast to our guns… as Chang is most definitely to be Chicago bound unless something goes very wrong.
